The useful info page was originally intended to share things that we discovered on our trip with our fellow overlanders. As we are going to be updating the county details for each country on the route page you can get our information directly from the route button on the menu bar. If you are just starting out know these important things:
Sudanese Visa's v Sudan Visa's - For the Visa's you need a letter from your embassy, 2 passport photo's and $100 (US only) We don't have ours yet but hope to get them the same day we apply, fingers crossed. If you can try organise them from the UK or your home country we'd recommend it as the Cairo embassy looks a little disorganised and no one tells you what's going on. Opening times are 9:30 - 13:30 Sunday - Thursday , if you have not been helped by 13:30 head home and try again the next day.
- Photo's are really cheap in Egypt 32 passport photos for 60LE - Mobile phone 16LE for Sim card and 50LE for air time. Txt messages are about 80LE to anywhere. Cards are activaed in 30 minutes or dial 445 to activate voice dial 225 for data activation which takes 2 hours
v Many people have done this so learn from their experiences v TIA - As much as you want to you cant plan for Africa. The idea of I'm going to meet Stacy for tea in 5 weeks timeis a concept that should be replaced with "we'll see you when we see you" v Africa can be scary, arm yourself with savvy and take the reasonable precautions v Some people live on less than a dollar a day, so show respect, appreciate their circumstances and act appropriately. v Have fun and enjoy it, it is an experience of a lifetime v Use the Africa overland networks , everything is there, past and new v Lookup the Dutch courage website www.dutch-courage.eu there guys have been there done that. v Never run out of booze !! |
